Ski Powder at Snowbasin, Powder Mtn. and Wolf Mtn. PDF Print E-mail

powdermountain_skier.jpg

Have you heard the news?  SKI Magazine readers ranked Snowbasin #1 in North America for lifts and #2 for on-mountain food!  Not to be outdone, Powder Mountain received the #2 ranking for snow and #3 for overall value. At Wolf Mountain, the new triple chair will be ready to ride by opening day, which is scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend.

Snowbasin, A Sun Valley Resort, and Powder Mountain have quickly become the "buzz" in the world of skiing. The 2002 Winter Olympics introduced our stunning Valley to the world and it's been growing in popularity ever since. The Men's and Women's downhill (as well as ALL of the Olympic speed events) were staged at Snowbasin and today you can ski the Grizzly Downhill (men's course) and the Wildflower Downhill (women's course) designed by Bernhard Russi with absolutely no lift lines!! Snowbasin also hosted the FIS World Cups before the big event.

Ogden Valley

Ogden City and Ogden Valley are divided by mountains. You can access both via canyon roads which is a quick 10-15 minute drive. Ogden Valley is an unspoiled, rural area that has little development and commercial zoning. Do we need Home Depot? No, because it's 20 minutes away. The City and the Valley are completely opposite of each other but are connected.

When in the Valley, you would never guess that a city is that close. Snowbasin, Powder Mountain, Wolf Mountain, Pineview Lake (kayaking, boating, swimming, fishing and fly fishing), Monte Cristo (#1 in the state for snowmobiling), North Fork (cross country and back country skiing), Wolf Creek Resort (master planned resort with 18-hole golf course), Shooting Star (oldest Saloon in Utah) and Ogden Valley Pathways (hiking, biking, mountain biking and horseback riding trails) are ALL located in the Valley.

The Valley includes three townships, Huntsville, Eden and Liberty. Eden is the host each August to the Ogden Valley Balloon Festival and Wolf Mountain's Music in the Mountains summer concert series including the Utah Symphony. Snowbasin is open for summer concerts, mountain biking and dining. It is truly endless what you can do here. World class skiing is just a start.

Powder Mountain was ranked #1 by SKI Magazine for snow and Snowbasin #1 for lifts and service last season.   There's also Wolf Mountain which is low key and a great place to learn to ski.

Wolf Creek Resort

logoWolfCreekResort_80x80tr.pngWolf Creek Resort

Wolf Creek Resort is the premier community for the Upper Ogden Valley and is located 5 miles from Powder Mountain (20-minutes to Snowbasin) in Eden. Wolf Creek currently has an 18-hole, par 72 Golf Course that is one of the most popular in the state and hosts the PGA Utah Amateur each summer. Golf season runs from April through November if weather permits. Wolf Creek Resort is the Valley's only master-planned community and has plans to expand its golf course another 18 holes, build a Resort Village with additional restaurants and shopping as well as a new recreational facility. Wolf Creek is a mature community that started in the 1960's when it was called Patio Springs. It has evolved over time and is now completing its masterplan. Today, there are many real estate options to choose from homes that are anywhere from 0-10 years old to new and upcoming communities .

History

History

Ogden's history starts with the Trappers, Peter Skene Ogden and John H. Weber, who battled over beaver pelts in the early 1800s (hence the names Ogden City and Weber County). Then Ogden emerged into a major rail road hub in the mid to late 1800s. The city is close to Promontory Point, where the final golden spike was hammered into the railroad connecting the East Coast to the West Coast for mass transit. This single event in history changed the world and made the United State what it is today. Ogden was once nicknamed "Little Chicago" and legend has it that Al Capone spent time there. You wouldn't expect that in Utah?? Historical 25th Street and Union Station in Ogden is still a very popular restaurant and shopping district with its original buildings and unique history.
